JLAB Meeting Minutes

February 12, 2015

The meeting began at 6:05 in the Programming Room.

3 members were present: Kaitlyn, Ian, and Isabelle

Tween and Teen Fridays are as follows:

·         Feb. 20^th- Archaeology and Dinosaur Dig

·         March 6^th- Minecraft Crafts

·         March 20^th- Gaming Day

The group shared ideas about summer reading, including potential prizes and programs, suggestions include:

Prizes:

·         Rainbow Loom Set

·         Bone graphic novels

·         Board games

·         Mini Basketball Hoop

·         Basketball

·         Water Balloons with pump

·         Superhero-themed Lego sets

·         Magazine subscriptions

·         Pokemon Cards

·         Frisbee Ball

Programs:

·         Minute to Win It – Superhero Version

·         Live Clue

·         Costume Contest

·         Gods/Goddesses Bracket

·         Capes

The group also shared suggestions about potential community helpers that could come in for Preschool/School Age programs:

·         Military

·         Police

·         Ambulance

·         Fire Department

·         Teacher

·         Nurse or Doctor

·         MarqTran

·         UPAWS/Veterinarian

Our next meeting will be held on March 12^th at 6 p.m.

Join us tonight at 6 p.m. for our JLAB meeting! We will have pizza! Come and hang out with us and plan upcoming tween and teen programs!

Creative Writing Opportunity

The Henry Ford is pleased to kick off its Third Annual "Building Stories: A
Creative Writing Contest". Students in grades 3-12 from across the United
States are invited to create a story that celebrates the life and times of
Thomas Edison, one of America’s greatest innovators.


The Henry Ford provides foundational materials, primary sources from our
collections, to set the backdrop for a creative story of historical
fiction. We encourage you to introduce this contest to your library
patrons. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2015. Students can win
great prizes, including the publication of the grand prize winner’s story
on The Henry Ford’s website, as well as 10 printed copies. You can find the

Life Drawing Class

Taught by Library Board President Paul Olson

Registration is not required and the class is FREE. You do not need to attend all sessions or even consecutive sessions.

Intended for ages 12 and up.

JLAB Meeting Minutes for January

JLAB Meeting Minutes                      1-8-15

The meeting began shortly after 6 p.m. in the Children’s Room.

1 member was present: Kaitlyn, plus Heather and Jesse.

We began by discussing what activities we should do for the upcoming tween and teen Friday programs. 

Tween and Teen Fridays are as follows:

·         January 9^th: Homemade Playdough

·         January 23^rd: Book Speed Dating

·         February 6^th: Origami Bookmarks and Valentines

·         February 20^th: Archaelogy and Dinosaur Dig

In addition, we will be doing a passive bookmark exchange program at the Children’s Room desk. Children can make a bookmark for themselves and then make one to place in the box for the bookmark exchange. In February, we will have a week set where those that made bookmarks can come and choose one randomly from the box to keep.

Other topics discussed included:

·         JLAB Pinterest Board to share ideas with the group for upcoming programs.

·         QR Codes

·         Kaitlyn suggested that we purchase more Baby Mouse graphic novels and the Julie American Girl Series.

Our next meeting will be held on February 12^th.
